Duane E. Simmons, 89, of Central City, died Saturday, January 20, 2007, at Jones Regional Medical Center in Anamosa, following a lengthy illness. Services: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 23, 2007, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City, by Monica Carpenter. Burial: Coggon Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 - 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
Survivors include two sons, Dale D. (Karen) Simmons of Central City and Donald L. (Nikki) Simmons of Springville; five grandchildren, Deanna (David) Shaffer, Kurt (Penny) Simmons, Darrell Simmons, Michelle (Jim) Beghtol and Meredith (Brad) Temple; eight great-grandchildren, Dexter and Dylan Shaffer, Meghan and Lindsey Simmons, Tristan and Ellie Beghtol and Ryan and Zach Temple; and a special friend, Luella Eichorn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Wilma; two brothers, Albert and Donald; and a sister, Grace Kleinhans.
Duane was born November 11, 1917, in North English, Iowa, to Oren and Ella (Gilchrist) Simmons. On March 25, 1939, he was united in marriage to Wilma Nietert. She died November 25, 1977. Duane farmed until 1957 and then was a self-employed mobile feed mill operator.
