Dr. Robert "Bob" Merle Livin

Dr. Robert Merle “Bob” Livin, 92, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at Living Center West in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Memorial services are pending. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.

Bob was born on April 6, 1932, in Oelwein, the son of Rubin and Phyllis (Lading) Livin. He graduated from Oelwein High School in 1950 and went on to earn his bachelor's degree in 1954 from Iowa State University. He earned his Doctorate of Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry in 1961. In 1955, Bob married Elaine Ogen in Chicago, Illinois, until her passing on June 24, 2010. He worked at Optometric Associates in Cedar Rapids for nearly 50 years as an Optometrist and partner. Bob retired in 2015 but continued working for a few years. He was a private pilot for many years and even built his own plane. Bob was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and Experimental Aircraft Association. He served in the Air National Guard. Bob will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Bob is survived and lovingly remembered by his son, Andrew (Barbara) Livin of Marion; daughter, Robin Livin of Marion; and three grandchildren, Hailey, Courtney, and Leah Livin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
