Douglas D. Vittitoe, 70, of Marion and Council Bluffs, Iowa, passed away on Friday, December 20, 2013. The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Inurnment: 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 3, 2014 at Union Cemetery in Littleport, Iowa.

Doug was born in Logan, IA to Lloyd and Jean (Sublet) Vittitoe on December 13, 1943. He grew up in Herman, NE, Decatur, NE and Modale, IA. His family moved to Council Bluffs in 1957. Doug moved to eastern Iowa in 1962. He married Donna Buckingham in 1965. They had three children. They later divorced and Doug married Janet Ruegnitz in 1980. Doug was body shop manager at Bob Zimmerman Ford in Cedar Rapids from 1975-1990. In 1990, he became co-owner of Quality Auto Rebuilders in Marion, IA. He was an avid fisherman and was a member of Cedar Rapids Bassmasters. He and Janet enjoyed climbing into his truck and taking day trips to various locations. It wasn’t unusual to find Doug in a casino. Doug was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd, his mother, Jean Redding, his stepfather, Lawrence Redding and his brother, Lyle Vittitoe. He is survived by his wife, Janet; 2 daughters, Lori (Steve) Bozanek, Tami (s.o. Fred Mathews) Vittitoe; son, Tony Vittitoe; 6 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter and a soon to be born great grandson; brother, Mike (Cindy) Redding; sisters, Becky Redding, Julie Jones, Kathy Redding, Deb Redding and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice or to S.O.L.A.S.
