Douglas G. McDonald, 68, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, November 8, 2010, in his home. Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 12, 2010, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. Family will greet friends from 4:30-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 11, 2010, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. Burial: Sisley Grove Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Rose McDonald of Cedar Rapids; children, Lisa J. Dochterman (Don Freeman), Kathy J. (Dan) Shea, and Eric J. (Melissa) McDonald, all of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Jamie Shea, Shane Dochterman, Kendra Dochterman, Danielle Shea, Cheyanna Ruggles, and Miriam McDonald; and a great-granddaughter, Averi Dochterman; siblings, Corinne Strong of Oklahoma City, OK, Barbara (Earl) Lagerquist of Marion, Lanny (Sue) McDonald of Oklahoma City, OK, Sue (Chuck) Collins of Concordia, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Wilma McDonald; and a son, Brian Douglas McDonald.
Doug was born October 31, 1942, in Iowa City, the son of Orville “Pete” and Wilma (Murfield) McDonald. He attended McKinley and graduated from Washington High School in 1960. On June 1, 1962, Doug was united in marriage to Rose M. Ronnenberg at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. Doug was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and RSES (Refrigeration Service Engineers Society) where he held numerous offices and taught RSES courses. Doug worked at Rockwell Collins before opening McDonald’s Refrigeration & Heating. Doug was the Director of Plant Services at Kirkwood Community College before retiring in 2003.
Doug was an outdoor person, enjoying hunting, fishing, boating, and camping. He was a gentleman farmer, as well as a Hawkeye and NASCAR fan.
