Douglas T. Chadima, 49, of 4322 Pioneer Trail S.E., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Sunday, January 17, 2010, in St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 21, 2010, at St. Matthews Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Father Mark Osterhaus. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, January 20, 2010, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where a scripture service will be held at 7 p.m. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Diann; daughter, Courtney Chadima; son, Reece Chadima; mother, Judith; sisters, Chris James of Cedar Rapids and Barb (Tom) Atwood of Greeley, Colorado; brothers, Bill (Sue) Chadima of Toddville, Jim Chadima of Cedar Rapids and John Chadima of Madison, Wisconsin; parents-in-law, Jim and Janet Dettbarn of Marion; brothers-in-law, Eric (Andy) Dettbarn of Monona, Iowa, and Kyle (Mary) Dettbarn of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Doug was preceded in death by his father.
Doug was born March 29, 1960, in Cedar Rapids, the son of William and Judith (Jostes) Chadima. He graduated from Regis High School in 1978, and the University of Iowa. On February 5, 1993, in Cedar Rapids, he was united in marriage to Diann Dettbarn. Doug owned John’s Lock & Key.
Doug coached his son’s basketball team. His son loved to watch football games with him. He loved being with his family and friends, was the life of the party, always had a smile on his face and his laughter was infectious.
Doug was a member of The American Association of Locksmiths, the YMCA, Elks Foundation, Pheasants Forever, and Duck’s Unlimited. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing in Canada, boating, spending time on the Mississippi, racquetball, cooking big meals, playing guitar and listening to music. His favorite teams were the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Green Bay Packers.
A memorial fund has been established in Doug’s memory.
