Doug McGowan, 59, of 2250 Scales Bend Rd. NE, North Liberty, formerly of Marion, died Friday, November 8, 2002, at his home, following a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 13, 2002, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by the Rev. Del Bear. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial: Ridgewood Cemetery, North Liberty, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife, Marge; three sons, Casey(Jane) McGowan of Cedar Rapids, Adam (Julie) McGowan of Phoenix, Arizona and Joby McGowan of Mercer Island, Washington; two sisters, Phyllis Turner of Louisville, Kentucky and Mary (Floyd) Manwiller of Ames; and four grandchildren, Mackenzi, Abigail and Emilee McGowan and Stoan Elliott.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, William Robert "Bill? and Bernard McGowan.

Doug was born October 8, 1943, in LeMars, the son of Clarence and Edith (Rion) McGowan. He married Margaret Rusch on December 1, 1984, in Cedar Rapids. As a young man, Doug owned and operated the APCO Station in Marion. He was also employed by Rockwell-Collins, Killians and Klinger Paint. In 1981, he began working for the original Teleconnect Company in Marion. After several years, Doug became president and one of the owners of Digital Communications of Iowa, until his retirement in 1996.

Doug enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and taking care of his acreage and fish pond. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
