Doug Johnson Profile Photo
Douglas Paul Johnson was born on March 6, 1947, in Boone, Iowa. His parents were Delmar and Gladine Culbertson Johnson. Doug believed and was baptized on April 27, 1958 at First Baptist Church, Boone. On September 6, 1968, he and Anita Sealine, his greatest gift in life, were married at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Stanhope, Iowa. They were blessed with two children, Carrie (Johnson) Hanson, Denver, Colorado, and Eric Johnson, Coralville, Iowa. In time, they were gifted by marriage with two more children, Micha Hanson and Anne (Kollmorgen) Johnson. And, with their children, they welcomed five grandchildren, Carter and Ella Johnson, Coralville; and Lukas, Olivia and Jon Hanson of Denver.

After earning a baccalaureate from the University of Sioux Falls, Doug’s vocations included teaching, community development, commercial banking and church business management. He enjoyed volunteering in civic and community organizations, but especially liked being involved in the work of the Church. Doug made a life by enjoying his family and friends, traveling with Anita, biking on the Cedar Valley Nature Trail, rebuilding a 1926 Ford Model T truck with his brothers, reading the Bible and good works of fiction, histories and biographies.

Succeeding him are his children, grandchildren and his other mother, Arlene Sealine. His brothers and sisters are: Ron and Shirley Sealine, Johnston, John and Diane Sealine Ford, St Joseph, Missouri, Steve and Chris Johnson, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Joyce Sealine and fiance’ Ilya Slutsker of Plymouth, Minnesota, Rich and Kandi Johnson, Lake City, Florida; and Dan and Diane Johnson and Paul and Mary Sealine, all of Stratford, Iowa. Doug always liked to be in the company of his many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. Preceding him in death were his wife, Anita, in 2019 and his parents, including his other father, Melferd Sealine.

Doug went home to be with the LORD on January 11, 2020. He freely admitted that he was a sinner saved by much grace. His faith in Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord sustained him in life and at his dying. Doug would want any memorials directed either to the Saturday Evening Meal Program at First Lutheran Church or to Kids First Law Firm, Cedar Rapids.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Cedar Rapids, on Friday, January 17, 2020, at 1:30 p.m. followed by a brief time of fellowship with his family in the narthex. Interment of cremains will be at a family cemetery, South Marion, southeast of Stratford, at a later date.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at Hall-Perrine Cancer Center, Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy and Hiawatha Care Center.
