Doug Arthur Emerson, 72, of Marion, died Wednesday, October 15, 2014, at his home. The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, October 20, 2014, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. Memorial Service: 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 25, 2014, at First United Methodist Church, Marion.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon; son, Scott (Jennifer Vigil) Emerson of Tucson, AZ; daughter, Janelle (Rob) Kerns of Iowa City; and son Stephen (Ashley) Emerson of Linn County; grandchildren, Alex, Mikinna, Andrew, Cole, Maya, Teyana, Tommy, and Camryn; three brothers; and one sister.
Doug was born June 9, 1942, in Chippewa Falls, WI, the son of Albert Willard and Helen Kathleen (DeLeshe) Emerson. He graduated from High School in Cadott, WI, and went on to attend the University of Wisconsin, where he earned his BS in Electrical Engineering. Doug married Sharon Foiles on November 6, 1965, in Chippewa Falls, WI. He was employed with Rockwell Collins until his retirement in 1999. Doug was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Marion, where he participated in the church choir, and a member of Cedar Rapids Sky Hawks. He enjoyed radio control model airplanes, woodworking, and traveling. Doug loved the outdoors and liked gardening, cross country skiing, and biking.
