Dorothy Florence Wittenburg, 86, a resident of Linn Manor Care Center, Marion, Iowa, formerly of Coggon, passed away Tuesday, October 2, 2007, following a long illness. Services: 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 5, 2007, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. Visitation will be 4:00 ?" 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 4, 2007 at the funeral home. Burial: Lenox Cemetery, Norway, Iowa.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Harold; her children, David (Nancy) Wittenburg of Marion and Judy (Fred) Younger, of Nora Springs; three grandchildren, Cole Younger, David R. Wittenburg, and Wendy (Cary) Crow; two great-grandchildren, Emerson and Avery Crow; six sisters, Bertha Rhinehart, Maxine (Donald) Bliss, Delores (Bill) Rawson, Arlene Wear, Virginia Alberts, and Marge Beatty; a brother, David (Fran) Uthoff; a sister-in-law, Eleanor Uthoff; and many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Walter Uthoff.
Dorothy was born July 14, 1921, the daughter of Henry and Florence (Vette) Uthoff, in Norway, Iowa. She attended Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls, Iowa and taught in a one-room school in Norway. Dorothy married Harold Richard Wittenburg on August 29, 1945. She was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church, a member of the Coggon American Legion Auxiliary; the Merry Maker’s Club, and the LWCA. She was also a Sunday school teacher for many years. Dorothy and Harold farmed in the Fairfax area until 1963, later moving to Coggon and then retiring in Marion. Dorothy lived her faith, loved her family, and will be deeply missed.
