Dorothy Eloise Thompson, 87, of Cedar Rapids, died at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, on Monday, June 15, 2009. Services: 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 19, 2009, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Howard Chapman. The family will greet friends from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, June 18, 2009, at the funeral home. Private family burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include her children, Annie (Jerry) Boster of Topeka, Kansas, Suzy (Bill) Hanna of Newhall, California, Sally (Ray) Sears of Greeley, Colorado, and John (Mary Ellen) Thompson of Stoughton, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren, Jacob, Isaac, Elijah, Alicia, Ashley, Erik, Nick, and Andrew; three step-grandchildren, Tanner, Brady, and Colleen. She is survived by her brothers, Dr. Harvey (Bernie) Galloway of Silver Spring, Maryland, and Robert (Betty) Galloway of Plymouth, Minnesota.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Bud.

Dorothy was born April 3, 1922, in Hastings, Nebraska, to Harvey and Eloise (Brown) Galloway. She earned her B.A. in education from the University of Nebraska. Dorothy was married to E.S. Thompson on May 27, 1946, in Hastings, Nebraska. Bud died in November of 1993. Dorothy was a teacher in the Linn-Mar School System and taught for 28 years. She was a member of PEO, Tri-Delta Sorority, numerous bridge clubs, and worshiped at First Presbyterian Church in Marion.
