Dorothy E. Swartwood, age 92, a resident of Alden Meadow Park Nursing Home, Clinton, WI, formerly of Alburnett, died Wednesday, December 6, 2006 at Mercy Hospital in Janesville, WI. Services:1:00 p.m. Sunday, December 10, 2006 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
She is survived by a nephew, Leland (Shirley) Millard of Alburnett, IA; two step-daughters, Helen (Bill) Holder of Janesville, WI, and Gloria Erickson of Beloit, WI; four step-sons: Darrell (Mavis) Swartwood of Shakopee, MN, Vernon Swartwood of Jackson, TN, Leo (Lois) Swartwood of Suwanee, GA, Daniel (Wanda) Swartwood of Rockford, IL; and numerous step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Daisy Millard; and a brother, Alvin Millard.
She was born on Sept. 7, 1914, in Alburnett, IA, the daughter of Thomas M. and Mabel Irene (Riley) Millard. Dorothy graduated in 1931 from Alburnett High School. She married Arlin Swartwood on Dec. 30, 1962 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. Arlin preceded her in death on May 13, 2004. Dorothy retired from K-Mart in 1976. She also worked as a telephone switchboard operator for 10 years in Alburnett, and at Killian?s Department Store in Cedar Rapids, IA for a number of years. She loved playing cards, traveling, reading, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. Dorothy and Arlin spent 27 years in Zephyrhills, FL before moving to Janesville in 2000.
