Dorothy C. Shaw, 86, of Manchester, Iowa died Wednesday evening, May 5, 2004 at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester after a long illness.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 8 at Silver Creek United Methodist Church, rural Masonville with Rev. Harlan Kaden presiding. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Manchester and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Silver Creek Cemetery, rural Masonville.

Dorothy Catherine was born the daughter of Lewis E. and Lillian I. (Wilson) Diercksen on April 21, 1918 in southern Delaware County. She attended country school near her family home then helped her mother raise her siblings. In 1941, Dorothy was united in marriage to James H. Shaw in Cedar Rapids. The couple farmed south of Masonville and then north of Manchester. Dorothy also worked as a waitress at the Elite Café in Manchester. The couple retired in 1970 and moved to their acreage near Masonville. James died in 1979. Dorothy moved to her home on Butler Street in Manchester until failing health required her to enter the Good Neighbor Home in 2000.

Dorothy was a member of First Lutheran Church in Manchester. She was known to be an excellent cook and sewed much of her family?s clothes. She loved to garden and raise flowers. She and James enjoyed fishing and playing cards.

Dorothy is survived by a son and his wife, Ronald D. & Jean Shaw of Waverly; and a daughter and her husband, Lynda & Jerry Williams of Marion; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Johnson of Cedar Rapids; a brother and his wife, Victor & Leona Diercksen of Marion; and a sister-in-law, Mae Diercksen of Manchester.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband James Shaw; a brother, Dale Diercksen; a sister and her husband, Velda & Glenn Kennedy; and a brother-in-law, Robert Johnson.
