Dorothy Mae Schnittjer, 76, of Manchester, Iowa died Saturday, May 10, 2008 at the Good Neighbor Home, Manchester, Iowa following a long illness.
Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at the First Lutheran Church, Manchester, Iowa with Pastors Jean Rabary and Jill Mack officiating. Graveside Services will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Earlville preceding the service.
Dorothy was born February 15, 1932 in Silver City, Iowa to Challice and Mary Kathryn (Williams) Hedgecock. She was united in marriage to Merle Schnittjer on December 7, 1967 at First Lutheran Church in Manchester. Dorothy worked as a bookkeeper and secretary in Manchester before retirement.
Dorothy was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Manchester, enjoyed quilting at the church, bridge clubs, and volunteered at the Good Neighbor Home. She enjoyed traveling and loved her family.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Kathy (Larry) Fair of Muscatine, IA, and Craig Summers of Masonville, IA; four grandchildren, Denise (Gerarld) Bartlett of Omaha, NE, Robert Sullivan of Cedar Rapids, Melissa Summers of Cedar Falls and Kelsey Summers of Waterloo; three sisters, Erma Sweet, Carolyn Ellis, and Marilyn McKee; and two brothers, Jack Hedgecock and Art Hedgecock.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband in 1995, Merle Schnittjer; one son, Clark Summers; two brothers and three sisters.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association, 3475 Windsor Avenue, Dubuque, Iowa, the Good Neighbor Home or First Lutheran Church in Manchester.
