Dorothy E. Petersen

Dorothy E. Petersen, 83, of 1324 19th Avenue SW, Cedar Rapids, died Monday, March 28, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following complications of diabetes. Services: 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 31, 2005, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer. The family will greet friends from noon to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial: Dunkard Cemetery, rural Toddville.
Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Usher and husband Gary of Marion; a grandson, Chad Usher; four sisters, Jean (Edwin) Skarke of Orange Grove, Texas, Helen Brown of Urbana, Iowa, Lois Hawkins of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Marge Beitz of Marion; two brothers, Robert Matheny and Richard (Betty) Matheny, both of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred; eight brothers; and three sisters.
Dorothy was born May 19, 1921, the daughter of Joseph and Abbie Schminkey Matheny, in Center Point, Iowa. On December 7, 1946, she was united in marriage to Fred Petersen in Iowa City, Iowa. He died March 4, 2005. A homemaker, Dorothy worked for Wilson?s in the late 1940?s and the Peter Pan Bakery. She was a board member of the Cedar Rapids Dance Club. Dorothy enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, baking and especially loved gatherings with her family.
