Dorothy Esther Nemec, 90, of 1351 19th Avenue S.W., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Friday December 9, 2005, in her home following a long illness. Services: 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Gary Sneller. The family will greet friends from 4-8 Monday, December 12, 2005, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Survivors include her daughters, Cheryl Nemec of Cedar Rapids, and LuAnne Rimini of Jackson, Wyoming; and a sister, Jane (Wayne) Beauregard of Cedar Rapids.
Also surviving are two grandchildren, Troy Merrifield of Cedar Rapids and Adrienne Merrifield of Jackson, Wyoming; four great-grandchildren, Monique, Devin, Clinton, and Kara Merrifield all of Cedar Rapids; a sister-in-law, Hazel Mote of Cedar Rapids; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph; two brothers, Harold and Harry William Mote; and a sister-in-law Francienne Mote.
Dorothy was born December 1, 1915, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of James and Bessie Jacobs Mote. On February 19, 1945, she was united in marriage to Joseph Nemec. He died in 1966. Dorothy and Joseph owned and operated Best Plumbing and Heating from the 1950?s into the mid 70?s. She was a member of the Cedar Christian Church and the TOPS Club.
Her many hobbies included, knitting, crocheting and crafts. She played the piano by ear, enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds and had a great love for horses and the mountains. Dorothy always had time for children and her family and enjoyed many activities with them. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Dorothy.
