Dorothy Mae Bishop, 71, of 1237 Center Street NE, Cedar Rapids, formerly of Central City, died at her home Friday, January 4, 2008, following a long illness. Services: 1:00 p.m., Monday, January 7, 2008 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City by Rev. Del Bear. The family will greet friends from 11 ?" 1:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Burial: Mt. Clark Cemetery, Central City, Iowa.
Survivors include her children, Donna Cabrera of North Carolina; Vickie Day-Wernentin, Cedar Rapids; Doris (Robert) Taylor of Central City; Dianna Coghlan of Cedar Rapids; and David Rich of Lowden, Iowa; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Cabrera, Suzanne Ramirez, Robert Ramirez, Angela Coghlan, and Amy Coghlan; four great-grandchildren, Jordan & Jacob Cabrera; Dillon Ramirez, and Elizabeth Coghlan; her siblings, Donald McVay of Alabama; Mary Lopez of Crawfordsville, Iowa; LaVonne Clark of Wisconsin; and Keith McVay of Georgia.
She was preceded in death by her soul mate, William Chester Bishop, who passed away on March 3, 1999; a son, Donald Rich; her parents, Ralph and Leota McVay; a brother, Duane McVay.
Dorothy was born July 19, 1936, the daughter of Ralph and Leota McVay in Linn County, Iowa. She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, gardening, and Country music. She was an Iowa basketball fan and loved spending time with her family and her grandkids.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Dorothy’s name.
