Dorothy Meaney McGuire, 74, a resident of Westridge Care Center, died Tuesday, January 26, 2010, at the care center. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Saturday, January 30, 2010, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids by Father Phil Thompson. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 29, 2010, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where a Rosary will begin at 4 p.m. and a Scripture service will begin at 7:30 p.m. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her husband, William; three daughters, Anne (Ray) Davis of Fairfax, Mary (Paul) Swanson and Joan (Carlos) Ledesma, all of Cedar Rapids; a son, David (Darcy) of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren, Jamie McGuire, Jennifer Davis-Bachmann (David), Jared Swanson, Kailey and Kara McGuire, Joshua and Jacob Ledesma; a great-grandson, Malikai Bachmann; and two sisters, Margaret (Jack) Rischard of Riverside, California, and Wilma Bauer of Dubuque.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a granddaughter, Meagan Swanson.
Dorothy was born March 1, 1935, the daughter of William and Irma (Ainsworth) Meaney in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She graduated from Franklin High School in 1954. Dorothy married William McGuire on July 19, 1958, at St Patrick’s Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. They had four children, Anne, David, Mary and Joan. Dorothy raised her family and was active at St. Patrick’s Parish. When her family was grown, she worked as a substitute Para educator for the Cedar Rapids School System, where she loved being with the students. Dorothy also enjoyed volunteering at Mercy Hospital for many years. She was deeply loved by family and friends and will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Mercy or St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids in Dorothy’s honor.
