Dorothy M. Marsh, 86, formerly of Waterloo and Readlyn, Iowa, died Monday evening, July 14, 2003, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home, Edgewood, Iowa, after a brief illness.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, July 18, 2003, at Grace Lutheran Church, Waterloo, Iowa, with the Rev. David Weber officiating. Friends may call from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester, and for one hour before services on Friday at the church. Burial will be in Garden of Memories in Waterloo, Iowa.
Dorothy was born on December 20, 1916, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of W.H. & Edith (Jordan) Pratt. She graduated in 1934 from East High School in Waterloo. Dorothy worked at S.S. Kresge behind the candy and donut counter. On May 17, 1942, Dorothy was united in marriage to Donald H. Marsh at Grace Lutheran Church in Waterloo. Dorothy did alterations for the Gildner?s Men?s Store later working as a seamstress for J.C. Penneys, both in Waterloo. Donald died on June 23, 1995. Dorothy continued to live in their home until 1996 when she moved to Readlyn. She moved to Manchester in 2000 where she lived briefly before ill health required her to move to the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood.
Dorothy was a long-time member of Grace Lutheran Church, Waterloo, where she belonged to the Lydia Circle and the Couple?s Club. She enjoyed her sewing and making handcrafts for her family and was known for her delicious pies.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter and her husband, Donna & Lowell Paul of Manchester; her son, Dale Marsh of North Charleston, South Carolina; six grandchildren, Robyne (Bill) Bergeson, Dawne (Mike) Garvey, Kristi (Doug) Chapin, Kira (Paul) Cizek, Phillip (Courtney) Marsh and Scott Marsh; and eleven great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, W.H. & Edith Pratt; her husband, Donald H. Marsh; two brothers, Harold D. & Donald E. Pratt; three half-sisters, Alice, Edna and Edith; two half-brothers, Roy and Charles Pratt.
