Dorothy M. Kruse, 83, 1137 19th Avenue SW, died Thursday, November 13, 2003, at Keystone Nursing Care Center, Keystone, following a brief illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 17, 2003, at the Asbury United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Ed Powers. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, November 16, 2003, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include a daughter, Dixie Dubishar of Fairfax; two sons, Lyle Kruse and wife Susann of Blairstown and Daniel Kruse and wife Ruby of Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Donald Walker of Waldron, Arkansas, and Victor Walker of New Smyrna Beach, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leland; a daughter, Anita Marie; grandson, Chad Allen Kruse; a brother, Charles; and two half-sisters, Beulah Brown and Maggie Ruble.

Dorothy was born November 16, 1919, the daughter of Charles and Clarinda (Goodman) Walker, in Trenton, Missouri. She attended Wilson High School in Cedar Rapids. On September 18, 1937, she was united in marriage to Leland Kruse in Cedar Rapids. He died January 8, 2002. For over 40 years, together with her husband, they farmed in the Alburnett and Coggon areas. In Coggon, Dorothy was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Women?s Club. She also was a member of the Merry Makers Women?s Club and a neighborhood card club. In 1959, they moved to Cedar Rapids, where Dorothy was a homemaker and worked for the Roosevelt Hotel in the banquet department for over ten years and also worked for Dostal Catering.

She was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church and the Local Holiday Rambler Recreational Vehicle Club Chapter 197. Dorothy enjoyed crocheting, knitting, cooking, gardening and dancing at the Eagles Club every Saturday night. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
