Dorothy Virginia Hartbeck, 94, formerly of Colesburg, died Saturday, December 15, 2007 at the Christian Healthcare South, Lebanon, MO, after a brief illness.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 20, 2007 at the Colesburg United Methodist Church in Colesburg by Rev. Gerald Klaus and Rev. Missy Brown. Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Earlville and one hour before services Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery, Colesburg.

Dorothy was born January 29, 1913 in Colesburg, the daughter of Watson and Stella (Harris) Gull. She received her education at Colesburg High School, graduating in 1930. On October 24, 1931, Dorothy was united in marriage to Louis W. Hartbeck in Galena, Illinois. To this union three children were born, Shirley Lorraine, Watson William and Karen Dorothy. Dorothy and Louis farmed in the Colesburg community until retiring in 1977. In 2002, Louis and Dorothy moved to Lebanon, Missouri where they made their home with their daughter Karen and her husband, Gerald.

Dorothy was a member of the Colesburg United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and the Ever-Ready Grange. She was a loving wife and mother. Her greatest joy was attending activities that involved her children and grandchildren. In her later years, watching Cubs baseball was a favorite pastime. Dorothy enjoyed listening to books on tape (400 +) furnished to her by the Wolfner Library for the Blind. The local Christian Radio Station, KTTK gave her many hours of enjoyment listening to news, gospel music and Christian talk shows.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Karen (Pastor Gerald) Klaus of Lebanon, MO; a daughter-in-law, Freddie Hartbeck (Walter) Onwilder of El Dorado Hills, CA; six grandchildren, Jay (Denise) Klaus of Overland Park, KS, Lee (Ken) Peterson of San Antonio, TX, Brett (Sallee) Hartbeck of Fremont, CA, Drew (Mary) Klaus of Keller, TX, Troy Klaus of Eldridge and Kyla (Kyle) Schminke of Shellsburg; ten great-grandchildren; 5 step great-grandchildren; two step-great-great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Rhoda VonTalge of Manchester; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Watson & Stella Gull; husband, Louis Hartbeck on March 5, 2002; daughter, Shirley Hartbeck; son, Watson Hartbeck; granddaughter, Dawne Klaus; brother, Russell Gull; sister, Dola Sampson; step-mother, Emma Gull; step-sisters, Cora Blaker and Freda Gidnapp; and three step-brothers, Harold Wessel, Donald Wessel and Robert Wessel.

Memorials may be directed to the Zion Cemetery Association of Colesburg, Wolfner Library for the Blind of Jefferson City, MO or KTTK Christian Radio of Lebanon, MO.
