Dorothy Emerson, 85, of Cedar Rapids, died on December 28, 2015. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 31, 2015, at St. Ludmila Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be held an hour prior to service. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements made by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Monica Kuda of Cedar Rapids, June (Bob) Raley of Fairfax, Dee (Alan) Gorman of Cedar Rapids; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Sr.; parents; son, Charles Emerson, Jr.; son-in-law, Kim Kuda; brother, Raymond Alexander; and sister, Mary Thurn.
Dorothy was born on February 24, 1930, in Cascade, Iowa, daughter of Austin and Regina (Kennelly) Alexander. She attended Cascade High School. Dorothy married Charles R. Emerson, Sr. in Monticello, Iowa. The family moved to Cedar Rapids in 1949, where she raised her family. She worked at Econo Foods as a food demonstrator for 17 years. She was a member of St. Ludmila Catholic Church where she was a member of St. Monica Circle, Altar & Rosary Society, Legion of Mary, church choir, baked kolaches for St. Ludmila Festival. Mom enjoyed crocheting afgans for others, water aerobics and loved her grandchildren. Forever in our hearts.
