With humble acceptance of God’s will, we announce the passing of Dorothy “Dot” Mae (Crutchleo) Slaton, 80, of Cedar Rapids, on Friday, February 23, 2024. A visitation will be held from 10 - 11 a.m. on Friday, March 1, 2024, at First Open Bible, 1911 E Avenue NW, Cedar Rapids. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church with Pastor Kenny Gail officiating. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids is assisting the family.

Dot was born March 23, 1943, in Constance, Kentucky, the daughter of James and Alice (Lail) Crutchleo. She was united in marriage to Vernon “Earl” Slaton Sr., on January 8, 1966, in Cedar Rapids. Dot worked alongside her husband at Earl's Backhoe Service for many years. She was a devoted member of First Open Bible Church, where she and her husband served as greeters. She also dedicated 25 years to teaching Sunday school. Dot enjoyed puzzles and traveling to see her family in Kentucky.

Survivors include her children, Carolyn Crooks of Anamosa, John (Chris) Slaton, Deb (Jim) Baker, and Vernon Earl Slaton Jr., all of Cedar Rapids; her seven cherished grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and a large extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Alice Crutchleo; husband, Vernon “Earl” Slaton Sr.; brothers, Ron, Jim, Tom, Calvin, and Buck; and sisters, Barbara, Margie, Karen, Mae, and Ella.
