Dorothy (Whiting) Beyer, 92, went to be with our Lord Monday, June 6, 2011.

Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 11, 2011 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Delhi by Rev. John Kremer. Visitation: 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, June 10, 2011 at the Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home in Earlville with a 8:00 Scripture Service. Additional visitation: one hour before services Saturday at St. John’s Catholic Church. Burial: St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Delhi.

Dorothy was born on a farm outside of Dyersville, IA to Lawrence & Gertrude (Cavanagh) Whiting, February 19. 1919. (19 was her “Lucky Number”) Dorothy attended Xavior High in Dyersville, graduating in 1936. In 1940, she eloped with Eldon “Banty” Beyer of Epworth. They eventually moved to Delhi to raise their family. Dorothy worked as a bookkeeper for Farmers Silvers Springs Cooperative which her husband managed.

Dorothy was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Delhi, Delhi Womens’ Club, and Delhi Legion Auxiliary. She was past-president of the Dyersville Deanery Council of Catholic Women, and past-president of Dubuque Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women. After retirement, Dorothy and Banty moved to the Maples on Lake Delhi. Dorothy loved to read, play cards, travel and visited numerous countries. She and Banty loved to dance and did so any chance they got. Dorothy started quilting and made numerous quilts and wall hangings for her family and friends. Dorothy treasured her time with family and had a special bond with her grandchildren. The grandchildren always said their best vacations were at Lake Delhi.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Phillip (Concha) Beyer, Fredricktown, MO, Lynne (Glen) Middleton, Plano, TX, Jon (Cindy) Beyer, Waterloo, IA, Peg (Ben) Pasker, Delhi, IA, Mary (Chip) VanPelt, Garland, TX, son-in-law, Bill Chamberlain, Orange, CT; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one brother, Gene Whiting, Marion, IA and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Eldon “Banty” Beyer; a daughter, Judy Chamberlain; and a grandson, Christopher Beyer.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be directed to the Meadows or the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, IA.
