Dorothy Virginia Young Berry, 80, of Northbrook Manor Care Center, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died there Thursday, March 13, 2008, following a long illness. Services: 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at Salem United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Linda Hansen Bibb. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, March 17, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Troy Mills Cemetery.
Survivors include her mother, Elsie Shunkwiler of Mason City; children, Peggy (Fred) Lutz of Central City, Danny Young, Sr. of Marion, Julie (Doug) Flickinger of Cedar Rapids, Bonnie (Dave Ray) Young of Pensacola, Florida and Dawn (David) Young of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Sheila (Rod) Ericson, Bridget (Brian) Pflughaupt, Mike (Carrie Livengood) Lutz, Jason (Jen) Young, Danny (Heather) Young, Jr., Brandon (Casey Andrews) Young, David (Stephanie) Seber, John (Tif) Seber, Brett (Sara Burkley) Seber, Shannon (Roy Golyar) Ray, Amy (Jimmy Fay) Young, Kayla (Tony) Young, David Ray, Jr., Dustin (Crystal) Young, Matthew (Stephanie) Ray and Chelsie, Maria and Trevor Young; a step-grandson, Jon Flickinger; 22 great grandchildren; three sisters, Anna Mae Northrup, Wanda Lee Rule and Elsie (Bill) Wilson; and five brothers, Dean Shunkwiler, Paul Shunkwiler, Jerry Shunkwiler, Glenn (Rita) Shunkwiler and Robert Shunkwiler.
She was preceded in death by her father; grandson, Joshua Young; daughter-in-law, Janet Young; one brother, Earl Wayne Shunkwiler; and two sisters, Peggy Lou Shunkwiler and Grace Shunkwiler.
Dorothy was born December 22, 1927, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Cecil and Elsie (Balduf) Shunkwiler. She worked for Nash Finch Corporation and was the manager of Dolly Madison Bakery.
Dorothy enjoyed playing bingo and scratch tickets, working crossword puzzles, crocheting and raising strawberries. She was an avid Cubs fan and also enjoyed going out for breakfast and to fish fries.
A memorial fund has been established in Dorothy’s memory.
