Dorothy Lavinia Bauer, 82, of Walker, died Thursday evening, August 26, 2004, in West Village Care Center, Independence, following a long illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 30, 2004, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, by the Rev. Mark Beesley. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday and an hour prior to services on Monday. Burial: Walker Cemetery, Walker, Iowa.
Survivors include her husband, Maynard of Walker; her children, Edmund Bauer and wife Judy of Walker, Donita Bauer and partner, Jill Thompson of St. Louis, Missouri, and Susan Ellis and husband Mark of Mequon, Wisconsin; five grandchildren, Lorraine (Mike) Melchert, Angela (Mark) Davis, Tim (Rachael) Bauer, Laura Ellis and Ryan Ellis; six great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Helen Warnke, Elverna Hilsenbeck and Alice Reiter, all of Oelwein, Iowa and Lavera Owen of Randalia, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; a son, Edward; and a grandson, Daniel Bauer.
Born May 26, 1922, in Fayette County, Iowa, to Ora and Ruth Fink Fox, she was united in marriage to Maynard Bauer on July 14, 1946, in Fairbank, Iowa. She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Independence; R.A.R.E. Club; L.W.M.L.; was on the Lutheran Family Services Board; and active in Band Parents at Walker Consolidated Schools. Dorothy enjoyed her bowling leagues; sewing quilts for World Relief and gardening. Her home, family and church were her life.
