Doron A. Petlon, 97, a resident of the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, died Sunday, January 15, 2012.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at the United Methodist Church in Manchester, IA by Rev. Paddy Druhl. Visitation will be from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester, IA. Additional visitation: one hour before services Wednesday at the church. Burial: Evergreen Cemetery, Delhi, IA.
Doron was born November 8, 1914 in Delhi, IA., the son of Clarence A. and Minnie A. (Eggiman) Petlon. He attended Clark School in Milo Township through the 8th grade. Doron helped on the family farm and worked for a rock quarry. On November 26, 1941, he was united in marriage to Lyla Jean Toms in Missouri. Doron served with the United States Army Corps of Engineers during World War II in Ireland and Europe from May 1942 through September 1945. After being discharged from the service, Doron and Lyla Jean farmed in the Delhi and Dundee areas. The couple moved to Manchester in 1957 where Doron worked for Gudenkauf Allis Chalmers Implement Dealership, did custom combining, painting, and sold McCurdy’s Seed Corn. After retiring at the age of 65, he worked at J. M. Jones and Sons.
Doron was a member of the Manchester United Methodist Church.
Doron is survived by one brother, Dale (Doris) Pettlon of Manchester; nieces and nephews, Bill (Lois) Pettlon, Jim (Judy) Pettlon, Jerry (Karen) Petlon, Linda Galigan, Sandy (Dennis) Ahrens, and Gail (Bob) Stoltz.
Doron was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Minnie Petlon; his wife, Lyla Jean Petlon in 1991; two brothers, Harold and Raymond Petlon; and a sister-in-law, Carolyn Petlon.
