Our Mom, Doris May Rohn, (Montague) 74, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2011 at Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center, after a long battle with illness and cancer. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 on Monday, March 7 at Murdoch Funeral Home in Marion. Funeral services will be at the funeral home Tuesday, March 8 at 11:00. Graveside services will be held at the Jordan Grove Cemetary, Central City, Iowa.

Doris was preceded in death by both her parents Floyd William Montague and Helen Maud (Lesley) Montague, her three sisters and six brothers, and one great-granddaughter.

She was born June 9, 1936 and wed Calvin Markham in June, 1952. They later divorced and Cal died in 2007. Surviving are her six children, Ed (Barb) Markham, Kathy Mc Cullough, Marge (Mark) Palmer, Deb (Kevin) Witte, David (Beth), Markham, and Joe (Gayle) Rohn. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and sister-in law, Jean Montague, and several nieces and nephews.

Doris remarried in 1972 to Merle (Bud) Rohn, and lived most her life in the Central City area. After Bud retired they moved to Florida and Ohio to be closer to her son, Ed, and his family. Bud passed in 1997.

Mom met her soul mate, Henry Metz on Valentines Day 2001 and she’s never been happier. She went peacefully with Henry and her children by her side.

Mom has always been a social person and she made a friend out of a stranger within moments of knowing her. But we will remember Mom most for her love of food, chocolate covered cherries, pancakes, fresh baked bread and coffee. She truly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends playing bingo, card games, puzzles, and snuggling with her special pets, Blackie and Megan.

We would like to give special thanks to the nurses and staff at Heritage and also her home health aides that treated her with love and nurtured her like she was their own mother. We, and she, are truly grateful that they made her last days special.
