Doris was born on March 30, 1924, in Creston, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Maude (Konkler) Hurley. She was united in marriage to Donald Floyd Moen on January 31, 1941, in Maryville, Missouri. She spent most of her adult life in Des Moines, Iowa, and most recently with her son in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
More than anything else, she loved the Lord and was a very faithful Christian. Her faith was evident in the way she approached everything. Because HE was at the center of her life, her faith drew people towards her and she enjoyed sweet and fulfilling relationships with so many. During her life, she enjoyed writing poetry and short-stories, interior design and decorating, listening to Christian music, painting, and playing cards and Bingo. Doris had another special love during her life, and it was a large, white cockatoo bird named Baby. Baby was a loving companion for Doris, and she even taught her special sayings like “I love you!” and “bye bye!” Doris was always there for anyone who needed help, a shoulder, or an ear, and always seemed to know the perfect support to give. She was loved by all.
Survivors include her son, Donald (Arlys) Moen; grandchildren, Rhonda (Ron) Sallman, Donald A. (Kelly) Moen, and Cindy (Scott) Kohl; step-grandchildren, Mark Spading, Denise Spading, Dawn (Gary) Boseneiler, Matt Spading, Mike Spading, and DJ (Dale) Pirkl; great-grandchildren, Michael (Amy) Moen, Stephen Moen, Dylan Lozano, Regan Lozano, Briana Kohl, and Jacob Kohl; and sisters, Jayne Cottrell and LaVona Jarvis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Maude Hurley; husband, Donald Moen in 1999; son, Ronald Moen; siblings, Darlene Loy, Lewis Hurley, Bernice Woosley, Beulah Conley, Alfred Hurley, Lucile Benedict, and Merland Hurley.
Memorials in Doris’ name may be directed to the family.
