Doris J. Liabo, 91, of Naples, Florida, formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Friday, September 5, 2014, at Memory Care of Naples, Florida. Services: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 13, 2014, at First Congregational Church, 361 17th Street SE, Cedar Rapids, conducted by Rev. Janice Springer. Family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday, September 12, 2014, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 520 Wilson Ave SW, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Center Point Cemetery, Center Point, Iowa.
Survivors include her son, Mark (Corenne) Liabo of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren, Jeremy (Lindsey) Liabo of Chicago, Illinois, Erica (Jesse) Liabo-VanDerpol of Madison, Wisconsin, Miriam Liabo of Chicago, Illinois, Tom (Katie) Liabo of Naperville, Illinois, Erin Liabo of New York, New York, Chad Liabo of Orlando, Florida, and Mike Liabo of Naples, Florida; and three great-grandchildren, Alex Liabo, Jack Liabo and Charlie Liabo, all of Naperville, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leslie; son, Rand Elliott Liabo; and brother, Donald F. Elliott.
Doris was born on June 30, 1923, in Center Point, Iowa, daughter of Everett and Mary (Kennedy) Elliott. Several years after World War II she worked at Killian’s Department Store in Cedar Rapids. In 1949, she married Leslie Liabo in Center Point, and together they raised their family. In 1973, they moved to Flossmoor, Illinois, then to Stamford, Connecticut in 1985, and last to Marco Island, Florida. Leslie died in 2006. She loved to play bridge, cook, play trivial pursuit with her friends at the Moose Club on Marco Island, but most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the caring professionals and volunteers at Avow Hospice in Naples, Florida.
