Doris Sara Kearney, 89, of Marion, formerly of Iowa Falls, died Thursday, January 19, 2012, at home. Per Doris’ wishes, there will not be any visitation or services. Arrangements by: Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. Private Family Inurnment: Iowa Falls, Iowa, at a later date.
Survivors include two children, Mary J. Claassen of Swisher, and Thomas S. Kearney of Marion; grandchildren, Katelyn Opheim, Kelli Michalk, and Sean Kearney; and great-grandchildren, Kaden and McKenna Michalk.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; siblings, Russell Sturgis, Allen Sturgis, Blanche Degraf, Ethel Sturgis, and Walter Sturgis; and her grandparents, Sara and Walter Stewart.
Doris was born April 19, 1922, in Brookings, South Dakota, the daughter of Charles and Bess (Stewart) Sturgis. She graduated from Ocheyedan High School. On March 8, 1943, Doris was united in marriage to William Thomas Kearney in Chicopee, Massachusetts. He died April 15, 2009. Doris (and her good friend, Roberta Cate) will be fondly remembered by many in Alden, Iowa, for their adventures and community involvement including: The Snack Shack at the city pool, the Shelter House at the river, their Sunday paper route, Sawdust and Stuff furniture refinishing, and their twin moped escapades.
