Doris Fraley, 86, of Urbana, died Friday, March 31, 2006, due to complications of a stroke. Services: 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2006, at the Urbana Christian Church, Urbana, Iowa, by Rev. Thomas Felts. Friends may call after 5 p.m. on Monday, April 3, 2006, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point. Burial: 2:30 p.m. at Greenbay Cemetery, Humeston, Iowa.
Survivors include two sons, David (Donna) Fraley, of Cedar Rapids and Roger (Lisa) Fraley of Urbana; one daughter, Kathy (Thomas) Booher; and one brother, William (Val) Benson of Orlando, Florida. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Candie, Elizabeth, Phillip, Haley, Melissa, and Bobby Fraley and Michelle Booher; and one great-grandchild, Danielle; sisters-in-law, Elaine Benson and Helen Brown; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Hattie Benson; her husband, Robert; and her sons, Richard O. Fraley and Charles R. Fraley; and a brother Daryl M. Benson.
Doris was born January 26, 1920, in Humeston, Iowa, to Victor and Hattie (Evans) Benson. She attended Simpson College and began her teaching career in elementary education. On March 6, 1942, Doris married Robert Fraley. Doris and Bob traveled and made their home in many places which included Texas, California and Montana before settling in Urbana. Over the years Doris held many positions which included teaching, physician assistant, manager at Spiegel?s, social work, activity director, VISTA, CETA and retired from Heritage Agency on aging-Kirkwood Community College. After retirement she became director of the Urbana Christian Church Pre-School. She was a member of the Urbana Christian Church, Helping Hand Club, Christian Women Fellowship Organization, Leisure Time Club and card clubs. Doris was well known for her honesty, intellect, patience and love of children. She was wise and always the voice of reason. Her greatest joy was her family and friends and she will be greatly missed.
