Doris May Fishel, 92, died on Monday, July 14, 2003, in her home that she made with her cousins, Robert and Barbara Vavra at 3375 Jonquil Lane in Marion. Services: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 19, 2003, at First Baptist Church/Church of the Brethren in Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Jerry Springston. Friends may call Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion and one hour prior to service time at the church on Saturday. Burial: Lafayette Cemetery, rural Alburnett.
Surviving are a sister, Helen Campion and husband Robert of League City, Texas; her in-laws, Gertrude Calvin and husband Harold of Center Point; her very close friends, Norman and Vernetta Crandall of California; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Wilfred, a daughter, Mary Crandall, who died in 1968, a sister, Mary and a brother, Raymond.
Doris was born the daughter of Lloyd and Violet Springer Snyder on May 3, 1911, in Cedar Rapids. She was united in marriage to Wilfred Fishel on June 9, 1937, in Marion. He died December 8, 1984. Doris was a lifelong resident of the Robins and Marion area. She graduated from Washington High School in 1928 and attended Murray Business School in Cedar Rapids. She was employed as an accounting clerk at Collins Radio for eleven years, retiring in 1970. Doris was a member of the First Baptist Church/Church of the Brethren Church, Martha Circle and Cedar Rapids Business and Professional Women?s Club.
