Doris "Betty" E. Carter

Doris "Betty? E. Carter, 87, a resident of Northbrook Manor Care Center, Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, May 12, 2005, at the care center, due to pneumonia. Services: 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 16, 2005, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Glenn High. The family will greet friends from 1 until service time Monday at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include three daughters, Patricia Barker, Sherrill (Bob) Turkal and Karen (Jim) Zacek, all of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Eckert of Cedar Rapids; and a brother-in-law, Elmer Carter of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Theodore.
Doris was born October 9, 1917, the daughter of Charles and Anna Malek Markham, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. On June 28, 1935, she was united in marriage to Theodore Carter in Iowa City, Iowa. He died July 3, 1990. A past member of the Sweet Adelines, Doris loved to sing and play the organ. She enjoyed flower gardens, knitting, crocheting and fishing.
