Doris Mae Bowles, 90, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa died Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 17, 2021 at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Doris was born March 3, 1931 in Lancaster, Wisconsin the daughter of Fred and Gladis (Wonders) Hess. She was united in marriage to Eugene “Gene” Bowles on April 5, 1965 in Oregon, Illinois. Doris worked as a dietician and food service provider in the kitchens at Mercy Hospital for 30 years until her retirement. She enjoyed the simple pleasures in life: a fresh cup of coffee, tending to her plants and flowers, and casting a line at her favorite fishing spot.
Doris is survived by her children: Sharon (Gene) Kanellis of Rock Falls, Illinois; Phillip (Jan) Hughes of Cedar Rapids; Tammy (Teddy) Anderson of Toddville; and David Bowles (Debbie Bouzek) of Cedar Rapids; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Gene in 2003; daughters, Donna Jean Hughes and Linda Offerman; and four brothers.
