Doris E. Bingham, 85, of Tipton, formerly of Marion, died Wednesday, April 29, 2008, at Cedar Manor Nursing Home in Tipton following a long illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 2, 2008, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by Chaplain Jeremy Hudson. The family will greet friends from 4 - 6 p.m., Thursday, May 1, 2008 at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service on Friday. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Survivors include two daughters, Pat Bingham of Tipton and Barbara (Clayton) Armstrong of Roland, Iowa; one sister, Ellen (Calvin) Moore of Tipton; 3 grandchildren, Craig (Sara) Butler of Muscatine, Sara (Arno) Briggs of Clinton, and Matthew (Shelly) Armstrong of Marion; 2 great-grandchildren, Jack Butler and Norah Armstrong.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a son, Tommy Earl Bingham.
Doris was born November 2, 1922, the daughter of Earl Herbert and Bessie Mae (Hegarty) Lehr, in rural Linn County. She graduated from Springville High School in 1940 and attended the Iowa State Teacher’s College (UNI). Doris married L.E. “Gene” Bingham on June 11, 1942 in Kahoka, Missouri. He died March 22, 1985. She worked at Collins Radio as an inspector for 25 years.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Doris’ name.
