Doris Bentz, 88, of Central City, died Wednesday, March 23, 2005, at Hiawatha Care Center after a courageous battle with cancer. Services: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City by Rev. Steve Russell. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial: Jordan?s Grove Cemetery.

Doris was born on August 18, 1916, to Walter and Hannah Andrews in the same home where she resided at her death. She worked at Alburnett Farmers Elevator for many years. She was married to Robert Bentz, an educator, for several years before returning home to care for her mother during her extended illness. Doris had a beautiful singing voice and was an active member of the Jordans Grove Baptist Church near her home. She was an avid gardener who loved flowers, shooed deer away, and never failed to provide food and shelter for a multitude of stray cats that prospered from her good will and caring spirit.

Doris is survived by her nephews, Steve Andrews of Grand Prairie, Texas, Neil Andrews of Harvard, Massachusetts and Dr. Lary Andrews of Pretoria, South Africa; her niece, Dr. Mary Bergman of Dewey, Arizona; and several cousins.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Dale and Norman Andrews.
