Doris Mae Baumann left this earth at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, Iowa December 23, 2022, after a life well lived. Services will be held December 30, 2022, in Central City at the United Church of Christ. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. with funeral services at 11:00 a.m.; the burial will be at the Prairieburg North Boulder Cemetery following the service.

Doris was born October 13, 1933, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and grew up on the family farm near Prairieburg. She was the daughter of Georgia Mae (Riddleman) and Earl Goodman Rosendahl. Doris joined three older siblings Holly, Richard and Marvel and was later joined by a younger sister, Joan. Doris remained close with her siblings her entire life. She attended Prairieburg Public School through the 8th grade, graduating from Coggon High School in 1952. After high school Doris worked in a restaurant in Coggon, Collins Radio in Anamosa and Northwestern Bell in Cedar Rapids. Doris was united in marriage to Dean R. Baumann July 6, 1956, with lifelong friends Don and Dixie Boyse standing as witnesses. They moved to their farm outside of Prairieburg in 1957 where they farmed for over 60 years.

Doris and Dean were blessed with four daughters. Doris was truly Dean’s equal partner in their farming operation raising hogs and cattle, working side by side with Dean every day. She grew a tremendous garden every year where nothing went to waste—canning and freezing produce for the winter. She was an exceptional cook, and her kitchen produced many baked goods—all to perfection—along with wonderful meals for Dean and their girls. Doris was active in the Hills Mills Homemaker club and worked many a fundraiser with the club and Prairieburg’s Good Ole Boys to benefit the town of Prairieburg Fire Department. Doris loved the little things that life offered and gave generously to her family and friends.

Doris was a wife, mother, grandmother, farmer, gardener, caregiver, volunteer, neighbor and friend. She actively cared for family during her life, caring for her mother for six years in her home and helping to care for siblings and friends when they became ill. She was always ready for a good conversation and truly compassionate to everyone. Doris greeted you with a smile.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters Ranae Frana (Neil), Myra Frana (Butch), Jacqueline Robertson (Mark) and Amy Kurtenbach. Doris had eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her husband Dean, parents Earl and Georgia Rosendahl, her siblings, Holly Hodge (George), Richard Rosendahl (Velma), Marvel Schmidt (Erwin) and Joan Jossie (Stan). Sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Lucille and LeRoy Nietert and Arlene Carson.

The family wishes to thank the staff at the Good Neighbor Home and Pastor Vicki for all of their care, support and love for Doris and her family. Memorials may be directed to the Doris Baumann Family and will be shared with the Prairieburg Fire Department and the United Church of Christ in Central City.
