Dora Marie Wall, 92, a lifelong resident of Central City, died peacefully at home on Sunday, July 30, 2023, comforted by her family and favorite country records. The family will greet friends from 4 - 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City. A private burial will take place at a later date at Springville Cemetery. A Celebration of Life for Dora will also take place at a later date.
Survivors include daughters, Corinne Minnick and Denise (Tony) Starry, both of Central City; three grandchildren, Taylor, Alexa, and Wyatt Starry; two great-grandchildren, Everly Morrow and Walker Wright; sister, Lois Clark of Marion, Iowa; and many well-loved nieces and nephews.
Dora was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Wall; parents, Bruno and Leona Brunen; brother, Donald Brunen; sister, Bernadine Sindelar; and son-in-law, James Minnick.
Dora was born on March 23, 1931, in Central City, the daughter of Bruno and Sadie Leona (Kopenhaver) Brunen. She graduated from Central City High School in 1948. Dora married Glenn Wall on April 17, 1951, at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Central City. Dora retired as Head Cook at Central City School and went on to cook at Central City Senior Dining and Shirley’s Country Café in Central City. She was known for her pies and especially her doughnuts. Many a class trip, team bus, or pep bus, couldn’t leave Central City without a bag of Dora’s doughnuts.
Dora was a member of the American Legion Post 421 Auxiliary. She was a volunteer for the Central City ambulance and a member of the North-Linn Fish and Game Club. Dora’s hobbies included gardening, camping, trout fishing, and feeding people. She loved going to the Central City Bluegrass Festival every summer and retained that love of old country and bluegrass music throughout her lifetime.
