Donovan “Duke” Harland, 81, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2016, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Thursday, May 5, 2016, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Service: 1:00 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.
Survivors include his children, Donna (Clark) Fratzke of Independence, Iowa, Steven (Catherine) Harland of Oakley, California, and Rochell (Darren) Ward of Waterloo, Iowa; step-children, Richard (Tresha) Boone of Henderson, Colorado, Tracey (Frank) Michalec of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jackie Ayers of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Jeff Ayers of Des Moines, and their families; five grandchildren, Isabella Rosenbohm, Zach and Cody Boone, Bart (Brianne) Wilson and Kristen (Ben) Ryckman; two great-grandchildren, Kaylor and Rawlins; siblings, Thomas (Judy) Harland, Joanne McInteer, and Gloria (Bob) Hummel; and his special dog, Gidget.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dixie Harland; parents; brother, Bob Harland; an infant sister, Linda; and a brother-in-law, Tim McInteer.
Duke was born on June 18, 1934, in Washington, Iowa, son of Elmer and Mable (Baxter) Harland. He served in the United States Navy from 1955-1959. On October 25, 1992, he married the love of his life, Dixie Ann Jedlicka. Duke and Dixie were true soulmates. He had a love for all things in the automotive industry owning his own body shop for many years and working in sales at Iowa Glass. Duke was an amazing artist and enjoyed cooking, woodworking, and nature. He had a one of a kind laugh and a smile that could fill a room. The church was very important to Duke, where he spent many hours volunteering his time and considerable skills.
