Donna May Swenson, 71, of Van Horne, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2018, following a courageous battle with cancer. The family will greet friends from 5 – 7 p.m. Friday, October 26, 2018, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 27, 2018, at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Van Horne, conducted by Reverend David Lingard. The family will also greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Donna was born May 2, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of John and Donna (Phillips) Harford. On June 20, 1964, in Cedar Rapids, she was united in marriage to Leland Swenson. Donna was baptized May 28, 1967, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha and confirmed on January 10, 2010, at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Van Horne. She was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Van Horne where she was involved in missionary work through the church. Donna was a loving mother and grandmother, devoted her life to her grandkids, and loved her church family.
She is survived by her children, Brian (Connie) Swenson, Karen (Mike) Knight, and Lee Swenson Jr., all of Van Horne; eight grandchildren, Taylor, Kelsey, Heather, Andrew, Madison, Ryan, Emily, and Brianna; a great-grandchild, Ava; siblings, John (Judy) Harford, Delbert Harford, Charlie McNitt, Terry (Diana) Harford, and Carol (Butch) Longerbeam; and many nieces and nephews.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Leland.
A memorial fund in Donna’s memory has been established.
Donna wanted to express her heartfelt thanks to Brian and Connie Swenson and Karen and Mike Knight for always being there for her, and also to her sister, Carol, who was always her right hand man, and her loving brother, Terry Boy.
