Donna Smock, 76, of Ryan, Iowa, died Monday, March 13, 2017. Visitation: 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., Friday, March 17, 2017, Bohnenkamp – Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester, and one hour prior to services on Saturday. Funeral Services: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 18, 2017, at Bohnenkamp – Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester. Inurnment at a later date: Peace Lutheran Cemetery, Ryan, Iowa.
Donna was born April 14, 1940, in Elkader, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Etta (Hansel) Starr. Donna married Robert Smock on July 14, 1956, at the Congregational Church in Edgewood, Iowa. Donna worked for West Delaware Schools in Ryan before attending Paris Academy of Beauty in Cedar Rapids. Donna owned and operated Donna’s Styling Hutch in Ryan. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church Ladies Guild and served as a Girl Scout Leader. Donna enjoyed quilting, camping, celebrating holidays with Christmas lighting and Easter egg hunts, and her flowers. She loved cooking for her family and spending time with her kids and grandkids.
Donna is survived by her children, Julie (Russ) Johnson of Lamont, Barb (Ed) Heathman of Ryan, Mike (Theresa) Smock of Strawberry Point, and Jeanne Wenger of Ryan; eighteen grandchildren; forty-three great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Reka (Glenn) Hansel, Bertha Starr, Louise Starr, and Carol Starr; and many nieces and nephews.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; grandchildren, Ashley Oberbreckling and Patrick Farrell; sons-in-law, Mark Oberbreckling, Charles Wenger, David Sullivan; five brothers, Don Starr, George Starr, Carl Starr, Jr., James Starr, and Frank Starr; four sisters, Dorothy Wilken, Erma Evers, Bernita Franck, Velma McNiell; and special friend, Victor Knautz.
