Donna Jean Sondag, of Hiawatha, died Sunday, April 28, 2013, at home, surrounded by her family after losing her battle with lung cancer. Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2013, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha by Reverend Daniel Krueger. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 2, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Private family burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Solon.
Survivors include two children, Rick Sondag of Highlands Ranch, Colorado and Cathy (Rick) Andrews of Blairstown, Iowa; two grandchildren, Anthony and Alexis Wintringer; step-grandson, Ryan Andrews; brother, Guy (Marlene) Scalf of Frisco, Texas; brother-in-law, Steve (Jeanne) Sondag of Conroe, Texas; nephew Elliott (Suzette) Sondag of Conroe, Texas; nephew, Wayne (Barb) Scalf of Frisco, Texas; nephew, Timm (Marianne) Scalf of The Netherlands; nieces, Kim (Andrew) Campbell and Lynn Riley, both of Everton, Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis; father, Edgar; mother, Arlene Campbell; and sister, Vesta Taylor.
Donna was born October 14, 1937, the daughter of Edgar and Arlene (Kent) Scalf in Avon, Illinois. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1956. On February 7, 1959, she married Dennis Sondag at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Dennis passed away August 6, 2009.
She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, Red Hat Society and Rebekah Lodge.
