Donn W. Newhouse Jr., 54, of Central City, died Monday, May 14, 2007, after a long illness at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Iowa City. A memorial service will be held at the AMVETS in Central City on Saturday, May 19, 2007, at 1 p.m. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City.
Survivors include two children, Matthew (Becky) Newhouse of Marion and Stacy Newhouse; four sisters, Dorothy Toone of Grants Pass, Oregon, Mary Benson of Central City, Gina Turpin of Grants Pass, Oregon, and Zola Williamson of Pahrump, Nevada; two aunts, Elaine Smith of Central City and Dolores Franks of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Donn was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Leland Ford; and two brothers, Charles and Richard.
Donn was born in Seattle, Washington, October 9, 1952, to Donn and Juanita (Lyons) Newhouse Sr. Donn’s greatest loves were his family, football, fishing on the Wapsie and his work with the AMVETS in Central City, where he was an active member. He also played semi-pro football for the Cedar Rapids Raiders in the 1970s. Donn served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam.
