Donald J. “Ding” Weldon, 83, of Marshalltown, Iowa, formerly of North Liberty, passed away Saturday, November 28, 2015, at the Veteran’s Home, Marshalltown, Iowa. Family will greet friends from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Saturday, December 5, 2015, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with the Service beginning at 12 p.m. Friends are invited to lunch following the service at the Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood.
Survivors include his sons, Brook (Kindee) Weldon of Swisher and Brian (Cammy) Weldon of Waterloo, Iowa; daughter, Jill (Brent) Schlotfeldt of Center Point, Iowa; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, John (Sue) Weldon; and two sisters, Dorothy Berkey and Shirley Podgorski.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Evelyn Weldon; son, Bart; and nine brothers and sisters.
Donald was born on June 22, 1932, in Holbrook, Iowa, at the family farm and raised in Parnell. He is the son of William “Bill” and Evelyn (Sullivan) Weldon. He graduated from Parnell High School. Donald joined the Air Force and served during the Korean conflict. He was a “boss mechanic” on second shift and was responsible for 101 planes. After serving in the Air Force, he worked for Square D for 33 years. Donald enjoyed softball, baseball, coaching basketball and was an avid Hawkeye fan. He was a history buff and enjoyed watching westerns.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
Friends are invited to join the family for lunch in the Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood following the service.
