Donald LeRoy “Twis” Twiselton, 90, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died peacefully on Sunday, November 4, 2018, at Winslow House Care Center in Marion. A visitation will be held from 4 -7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 7, 2018, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, November 8, 2018, at the funeral home presented by Tom Boeckmann. The funeral will also include a Masonic service conducted by Rick Bowersox, Recorder of the El Kahr Shrine Center. Burial will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Donald was born September 4, 1928, in Tama, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Jenny (Bracey) Twiselton. He graduated from Tama High School in 1946 and in October of 1946, Don enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served for three years. Don felt honored to be able to go to Washington D. C. on an Honor Flight in May of 2014 with his step-grandson, Christopher, who accompanied him as his guardian. After moving to Cedar Rapids, Don was employed at Cryovac Division of W. R. Grace for 38 years, retiring in 1994. In the spring of 1967, Don became a Mason and was affiliated with Mizpah Lodge and later in 1967, he became a member of El Kahir Shrine and El Kahir Shrine Color Guard. He was a very proud Shriner and several times he transported children to the Shrine Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Don thoroughly enjoyed the times he went to the Iowa Hawkeye football games as well as watching the Chicago Cubs on television.

He is survived by his beautiful daughter, Gwen Twiselton of Spring, Texas; his wife, Shirley; step-sons, James (Justine) Meyerhoff and Jerry Meyerhoff, both of Cedar Rapids; step-grandchildren, Molly (Craig) Olson of Waukee, Kelsey (Cody) Graves of Central City, Christopher, Kimberlee and Samantha Meyerhoff of Cedar Rapids; step-great grandchildren, Brandon and Abby Olson of Waukee; and a niece, Sarah of Cedar Rapids.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and sister-in-law, Dixie Twiselton.

Memorials in Don’s memory may be directed to the El Kahir Shrine Transportation Fund at P. O. Box 38 in Hiawatha, Iowa 52233.

Many thanks to the staff of Winslow House Care Center in Marion for their kindness and professional care that was given to Donald during the three and one half years that he was a resident there.
