Donald E. Starks, 73, a resident of Winslow House Care Center in Marion, formerly of Central City, died Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center, following a long illness. Services: 10 a.m. Friday, May 30, 2003, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Del Bear with Masonic Service by Level Masonic Lodge No. 284 AF & AM of Central City. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Survivors include his daughter Sherry Franklin and husband Denny of Plano, Texas; a son, Dan Starks; five grandchildren, Krystal Hagan and husband Jonathan of Chicago, Illinois, Derek Franklin and wife Kif of Galveston, Texas, Dustin Franklin of Dallas, Texas, Shannon Starks and wife Melissa of Cedar Rapids, and Georgia Lynn Starks; a sister, Janice Olson and husband Gerald of South Amana; and one great-grandchild.
Don was preceded in death by his parents.
Don was born January 27, 1930, the son of Maynard "Jack? and Frances (Jones) Starks in Williamsburg. He graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1947 and attended Cedar Rapids Barber?s College. Don was self-employed as a barber in Central City for many years. He was a member of Level Masonic Lodge No. 284 AF & AM of Central City and El Kahir Shrine.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Don?s memory.
