Donald Stephen Stagg, 86, of Walford/Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 13, 2023, at Mercy Medical Center. Visitation will be 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at The Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood. Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 19, 2023, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service at 520 Wilson Avenue SW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52404. Private family burial will be at a later date at Anderson Cemetery, Swisher, Iowa. Don was born March 12, 1936, in Springdale, Iowa, the son of Ray and Lura (Hartsock) Stagg. He graduated from Solon High School in 1953. Don was united in marriage to Mary Rotter on June 5, 1957 and were happily married for 50 years. He loved the outdoors, camping, boating and fishing with his family and friends. He worked at Amana Refrigeration for several years in customer service and then moved on to Downing Box/Longview Fibre until he retired in 1998. In his later years he, and his very special companion Marilyn, enjoyed vacationing in Florida for the winter and spending time with family at her cabin on the Cedar River.
Don is survived by his two children Michael (Kelly) Stagg and Angela (Kurt) Tjelmeland; grandchildren Mindy Graeter, Debra Horak, Michelle (Kyle) Jacob, Tyler (Alicia) Tjelmeland and Kara (Matt) Adams; 5 great-grandchildren Lexa, Makenna, Shaylee, Claire, Drake and Kate; his companion Marilyn Busher; a sister Kathleen Murray; two brothers Leslie Stagg and Wayne (Nancy) Stagg; two sisters-in-law Shirley Schulte and Phyllis Marak; a brother-in-law Darryl Neitderhisar as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary, parents-in-law; sisters Elsie Sward, Marilyn Rouner, Margaret Seebeck, Ruth Beranek, Matti Lou Lewis, Kay Blink and Carol Ann Neitderhisar; sister-in-law Donna Zebokrtsky; Brothers Keith, Howard and Billy; brothers-in-law Bernard Marak and James Rotter.
The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses at Mercy ICU and caregivers at US Renal Care. They would also like to thank everyone for helping to celebrate the life of Don. He was a friend to everyone
he met throughout his life and will be missed by all.
