Donald W. Smith, 93, of Manchester, died Saturday February 26, 2011at Linn Manor Care Center, Marion.
Services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at Bohnenkamp - Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Manchester. Additional visitation one hour before service on Tuesday. Visitation will be from 3:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, February 26, 2011 at the Bohnenkamp - Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Manchester, Iowa. Burial at Fairview Cemetery in Earlville, Iowa.
Donald W. Smith was born May 13, 1917 to Silas and Carrie (Lewis) Smith in Coffins Grove township- 5 miles west of Manchester, Iowa. Donald lived all his life in Delaware County except for 10 months in 1939, he lived in Colorado, returned to Manchester in November, and started trucking. In the spring of 1944, he started farming north of Masonville. In 1946 they moved to the Ehne family farm. In 1984 they built a new home in Dutchtown.
On August 11, 1940 Donald married Clara Ehne. To this union 3 children were born. Clara died October 15, 1986.
Donald is survived by a daughter Carma Hon of Manchester, a son Eric (Shelia) Smith of Manchester, and a daughter-in-law Darlys Smith of Manchester, six grandchildren: Larry (Donna) Hon, Kenneth Hon, Deanna (Seth) Collins, Randy Smith, Robin (James) Smith, Dondy (Kim) Smith, 13 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are siblings: Belle Gentz of Marion, Corinne Borrett of Marion, Betty (Mahlon) Conrad of Manchester, Emma Kennedy of Manchester, Ruth (Ray) Moser of Viroqua, WI.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Clara, son Dennis in 2001,two brothers Arba and Doran, and a sister Mae.
