Donald E. Sandquist, 76, of 1775 Sundance Dr., Marion, died Saturday, August 5, 2006, at his home following a short illness. Donald?s wishes were to have his body donated to science. Memorial Services: 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 12, 2006, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion, Iowa, by Chaplain Glenn Marshall.

Survivors include his wife, Marie of Marion; four children, Stephen Sandquist, Jon (Jean) Sandquist, Julie Cole and Robert Sandquist; three stepchildren, Sandra Nelson, Rita Blessing and John (Wendi) Gabrielson; eight grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; one great-grandchild; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

Also surviving are two sisters, Pauline (Clarence) Olson of Gowrie and Janice (Dennis) Freeman of Ames; mother-in-law, Mary Blocker; aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two siblings in infancy; and an infant son.

Donald was born March 15, 1930, the son of Edwin and Mildred (Erickson) Sandquist, in the farming community of Gowrie, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Air Force during peacetime. Donald moved to the Cedar Rapids area in the early 1960s. He worked as an electrician for ESCO Group for thirty-five years before retiring. After retirement, he worked six years for Best Buy. He married Marie Blocker July 3, 1982, in Marion. Don and Marie traveled to 49 of the 50 states. He also enjoyed his computer.

He was a member of El Kahir Shrine and was a 32nd Degree Mason.

Donald was very close to his family and always enjoyed their visits. He was a loving and devoted father to everyone who called him Dad.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Mercy or Shriner?s Hospital for Crippled Children.
