Donald A. Robertson, 91, of 115 Josephine Lane NW, Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center, due to injuries received in an automobile accident. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at St. Jude’s Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Mark Reasoner. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 28, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where a vigil service will begin at 5:00 p.m. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; six children, Judy (Floyd) Sauter, Jon (Gwynne) Robertson, Donald S. (Rebecca) Robertson, Gregory (Janet) Robertson, Martin (Diana) Robertson and Paul (Kimberly) Robertson; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother; and a sister.

Donald was born June 12, 1917, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of John and Alta (Martin) Robertson. He married Dorothy Templer at Immaculate Conception Church in Cedar Rapids. As a boy, Don worked for Harry’s Delivery and later managed a grocery store. He worked at Wilson & Company in the wholesale meat department and then he enlisted in the United States Army during World War II. Don served in the Pacific Theater and after the war ended, his troop was sent to Japan as part of the occupational army.
After the war, he painted and worked on new houses. Don then went to Mercy Hospital and started up the maintenance department which eventually covered electrical, plumbing, carpentry, heating and cooling, the grounds, etc. He retired in 1980.
Don was a loving husband and father. He spent a lot of time with his children ice skating, tobogganing and camping. He loved sports, golfing and bowling. Donald loved to travel and he went all over the United States, Canada and Mexico.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Donald.
